Welcome to Report 256

Dear Reader,
Welcome to Report 256
In a time where information moves fast and attention span is short, trust matters more than ever. Report 256 was created to respond to that need.
We are a digital newsroom focused on Uganda and the wider East African region. Our work is guided by one simple idea: journalism should be credible, clear, and rooted in public interest.
Report 256 exists to inform, educate, and engage. We tell stories that matter, not just the ones that trend. From climate and governance to everyday lived realities, we aim to reflect what is happening on the ground, with accuracy and context.
What you will find here is not noise. It is reporting that is verified, balanced, and intentional.
Our journalism is built on a strong editorial foundation. Accuracy comes first. Every fact is checked, every claim is questioned, and every story is treated with the seriousness it deserves. We believe in fairness, which means representing issues honestly and giving space to different perspectives. We believe in transparency, so you understand where information comes from and where its limits lie. And above all, we believe in accountability, both to our audience and to the truth.
We are also intentional about independence. Report 256 does not take direction from political actors, government pressure, or commercial interests. What we publish is guided by editorial judgment, not influence. This allows us to report freely and responsibly, without compromise.
At the same time, we recognise that journalism today is not just produced in newsrooms. It is shaped by communities. That is why we create space for contributors, perspectives, and voices that are often underreported. But participation comes with responsibility. All contributions must meet clear editorial and ethical standards to protect the credibility of the platform.
Our Terms of Use are designed to maintain that balance. They ensure that this platform remains safe, respectful, and lawful. Content on Report 256 is protected, meaning it cannot be reused or republished without permission. At the same time, users are expected to engage responsibly, without spreading misinformation, harassment, or harmful content. This is how we protect both the work and the people behind it.
We are also clear about how content is used. Contributors retain ownership of what they create, but by sharing it on Report 256, they allow us to publish and distribute it as part of our work. This ensures visibility while maintaining proper credit and fairness.
What makes Report 256 different is not just what we publish, but how we approach journalism. We are not driven by volume, but by value. Not by speed alone, but by accuracy. Not by visibility, but by impact.
Our goal is simple but ambitious: to build a newsroom that people can trust. One that contributes to informed public conversation. One that documents our realities with honesty. And one that grows into a platform where both journalists and audiences feel represented.
This is just the beginning.
Report 256 is here to report with purpose.

Leticia Mmeeme.
